Okay, so I'm an unabashed Apple fanboy. Just glancing around my desk, I see a MacBook, MacMini, three iPods, an iPhone, an iSight, an Apple keyboard, an iLife 08 box, an Apple TV, and that's not to mention all the other flim-flamery throughout the house.
But man, does their tech support suck.
Case in point. My Mac Mini gave up the ghost, rather slowly. each time I booted it, it got a little worse until it reached the point where it wouldn't start all the way up. Now, I'm no Woz, but I know my way around these machines, and I threw everything I could at it before calling up support. After twenty minutes on hold, they have me essentially re-do all the things I've already done. The only reason to do this stuff is to humor them, obviously, but whatever. I know the drill, so I jump through the hoops. Finally, we get to the point where I knew we would, where the tech support person says "uncle" and tells me that they need me to mail in my Mac. Great. Take it.
She says my mailer should arrive the next day. It doesn't. But hell, it was Saturday. I decided to wait. Today, when DHL didn't bring it, I called tech support. Another long hold time (this time it was a mere 15 minutes). I give the guy my deets, and he has to put me on hold. A long time passes. Know what the problem was? They don't take Mac Minis as mail ins.
Oh.
"And you weren't going to let me know?"
"Well, I am letting you know right now. You need to take your computer to an Apple Store."
Oh. Right. Thanks. Thanks for being so proactive about it.
