So it's apparently nothing but Kindle these days. I thought I'd spend a moment talking about my ebook reader. It's an iPhone. And not even one with crazy mccrazyson apps installed. It's complicated, but I bet you can pull it off. Here's how it works.
- Step one: Convert large document of just about any (non-protected) type to PDF. You can do this with a Mac by Apple-P / Save As PDF. Yay, formatted text.
- Step two: Email PDF document to self at your Gmail address. Yeah, this is the hard part. Best to do it quickly. Get in and get out again.
- Step three: Open email in iPhone. Since you're smart, I'm going to combine two steps in one here. When you open the email, you're going to see the attached PDF. Tap it to download and open.
- Step four: Read. Often, if the type is small, it's easier to flip the phone
Another nice thing about this is you can queue up a bunch at once, so you have a portable library to access at will. You could email, say, twenty books (or documents) to your Gmail, each with its own subject. Like. For example. Subject: Moby Dick. or Subject: Ulysses
Later, you can use Gmail's web interface (omg! iphone optimahzized) to search for "moby dick" (or whatever) and open it. In this case, it appears in its own window in Safari.
